My most recent novel, “Blood Justice,” reviewed in daily newspaper

My latest novel, “Blood Justice,” has recently been reviewed by the local newspaper, The Sun News. Check it out in its entirety below and be sure to share your thoughts of my books with me on this website or on Amazon.

********

Blood Justice Front CoverIn his seventh Jack Brandon novel, “Blood Justice,” author Barry Kelly uses fiction, strong characters and an action-packed plot that seems to be two steps ahead of the current news about ISIS, terrorist attacks and the radicalization of America’s youth.

In “Blood Justice,” Jack Brandon, the hero of seven of Kelly’s novels, along with his team of behind-the-scenes warriors, works with the CIA to battle jihadists in America. But mostly, the team seems to do as it chooses, with Brandon’s guidance. That includes finding terrorist camps where young people are being radicalized and stopping the attacks that they are meant to perpetrate.

“Blood Justice” brings to light some of the dangers of political correctness when dealing with ISIS, and, from the viewpoint of its characters, offers some insight into why and how young Americans are radicalized to the point of being used to carry out suicide missions and mass attacks against their country.

In “Blood Justice,” the Brandon team encounters one of its most formidable foes, a terrorist operative called Tracker, who almost manages to outsmart the team as they fight to prevent mass terrorist attacks in America.

There is no shortage of adventure and action, which kept me turning the pages and following the twists and turns of a well-contrived plot with good descriptions of people and places that reflect Kelly’s imagination and his life experiences.

“Blood Justice,” like all of Kelly’s books, has been reviewed and approved by the CIA to prevent disclosure of classified information. Kelly, a former CIA agent with years of deep-cover experience, blends his creativity with his knowledge of espionage, counter-terrorism, black operations, the inner working of the government security apparatus and much more to create his Jack Brandon novels.

His years in the CIA, the Navy and on the National Security staff as a special assistant to President Ronald Reagan, along with the rest of his rich history of service, education and awards that is shared in the About the Author section of “Blood Justice,” enhances the reader’s perceived credibility of his stories.

Kelly’s descriptions of people and places are signs of his years of watching people, his knowledge about disguise and his travels as he worked with the U.S. government in places around the world.

Jack Brandon and his team are experts when it comes to killing, but unlike their enemies, they only kill when it appears to be absolutely necessary to keep them and the country safe.

Brandon’s team always includes a highly trained canine, a Bouvier des Flandres, Kelly’s favorite breed. “Blood Justice” is dedicated to Gideon, Kelly’s dog who was the inspiration for the canine character in it. Gideon, also shown training with Kelly on the back cover, died of cancer prior to the publication of “Blood Justice.”

As Jack Brandon and his team carry on their war against terrorists in Kelly’s fiction stories, attacks like the ones he writes about are being planned and carried out by terrorists in America and around the world.

Other novels by Barry Kelly are “Justice Beyond Law,” “Justice without Mercy,” “Shades of Justice,” “The Justice Trilogy,” “Run to Freedom” and “Quiet Justice.” All of his books are published by Prose Press of Pawleys Island and are available online and at most book outlets.

INSIGHTS 241 — THE ADVISOR CRITICIZES THE PRESIDENT’S SPEECH

Advisor's vault doorBy his first comment, the Advisor could tell he had hit a presidential nerve. In an angry voice, the President said, “What do you mean I live in a different universe?”

“Simply judging by your last speech on the terrorism incident in San Bernardino, California. You focused on gun control, said don’t blame Islam, touted the success of your existing strategy against ISIS or ISIL and the effectiveness of your multination coalition, and the arming of Sunni and Kurdish forces with more Special Forces support and a continuation of the bombing of ISIS targets and the need for patience. Are you not aware that no one believes any of this?” The Advisor waved one of his arms across the table.

The President sat back in his chair. “You are so wrong. All my advisors, those who don’t live in a cave, tell me my speech was near perfect. I know my transformation program is going well. I’m close to closing Guantanamo Bay and issuing an executive order to strengthen existing gun regulations.”

The Advisor paused. “I don’t believe any of that has anything real to do with the threat from Islamic jihadists. Your statement that the Islamic religion has nothing to do with terrorist attacks is neither accurate nor believable by anyone living in the modern world. Of course, not all Muslims are terrorists, but nearly all of today’s terrorist attacks are carried out by Muslims in the name of Islam. Moderate Muslims are not speaking out against jihadists and are not helping to prevent the radicals from taking control of the Islamic world. What do you think the Caliphate ISIS is establishing is all about? Closing Guantanamo Bay and more gun control regulation actions make people wonder what you are thinking about and why aren’t you focusing on the real problem of terrorism being exported from Islamic safe havens?”

“Well, is this the real Advisor exposing his true beliefs? You just don’t understand. Your ancestors never suffered under British colonialism. My grandfather and father both lived under the British boot. They were persecuted for their beliefs.”

“I cannot give you the advice I think you can use without injecting my own set of values and historical information base. No, my ancestors did not suffer under British colonialism. My ancestors were slaves brought from Africa in American and European ships loaded with Africans captured and sold to them by Arab Muslims and some Muslim-Africans with Arab names.

“American blacks fought for and won legal and actual freedom. Freedom wasn’t given to us. We fought for it. That is something you don’t understand about black history in America. You and your Kenyan family never were part of the King crusade. I don’t know about your white mother.

“We blacks have and have had our problems with equality and opportunity in America but we are proud to be Americans. We built a large part of this nation and are just in the last generation coming into enjoying our share in the American dream. Islamic terrorism is not just a threat to wealthy white America, it is a threat to all Americans of all classes. Under rule by the Progressive Party, do you think a boy from your background could become president of the United States? Isn’t that a real example of social mobility between economic classes in America?”

Instead of answering, the President stormed out and slammed the old vault door.

The Advisor thought, he might not come back and at this point, I really don’t care. I’ve no more advice I can offer. It is probably time to make my last entries and close my journal.

INSIGHTS 240 The ISIS Threat in America

Blood Justice Front CoverQuiet Justice cover
No matter what your political allegiance may be, you should be aware of the threat from radical Islamic forces to kill you and other innocent Americans here in your own neighborhood. Paris, San Bernardino, Boston all presented soft targets for terrorists to exploit. Their target is to kill Americans. They do not care where, only that they can kill large numbers of unarmed people.
Make no mistake. Radical jihadist elements are actively at work in America with a single goal: to kill as many of us as they can.
In the last year, I have written two novels that depict plausible scenarios of ISIS attacks taking place in America and the vulnerabilities of the forces of law and order to protect you and your family. A third fiction book dealing with the destructive effect of the President’s transforming of America is now under review at CIA.
I chose the medium of fiction to explain this threat because the power storytelling has to attract readers versus the reading of theoretical tomes or the listing of mind-numbing dates, events and projected future problems. These books are good reads and contain much of what I learned from my experiences during the Cold War and counter-terrorism intelligence operations from the Korean War, two years of special operations in Vietnam, CIA assignments in Moscow, South Asia, and the Middle East, and two informative years as a special assistant to President Ronald Reagan for National Security Affairs. In that role, I chaired the weekly meetings of the top counter-terrorist committee in the U.S. government.
My most recent manuscript is now under review at CIA and will probably be published in early 2016. This work is now titled The Secret Advisor. The other two novels are Quiet Justice and Blood Justice. They are currently available in digital and print from local bookstores, Amazon and Barnes & Noble. In addition, I have written four other related novels, all reviewed by CIA to prevent the disclosure of classified material.
I have made the ISIS threat to the American homeland clear and available. It is up to you to read about the threat and pass on your understanding to your family, friends, neighbors and representatives. I’m going to continue to do what I can to call attention to the dangers of complacency through my blogs, which you can read and sign up for at www.factsandfictions.com, and through social media. INSIGHTS 239 — IMMIGRATION, A KEY PART OF TRANSFORMATION

The President could hardly wait to see what the Advisor thought of his plan to bring thousands of Syrian refugees into the United States. He toyed with his coffee cup, lit a cigarette, and said, “Well old man, what do you have to say about my immigration plan?”

“Nothing you do not already know. Let’s see if I have it right. First, it is a great issue. You can use your impressive political messaging skills to bash the Republicans and the renegade Democrats who worry about national security issues. What is really impressive is that you, single-handedly, caused the migration of people out of the Syria and Iraq and no one is even blaming you for creating this nightmare. You can now use the refugees to spread your ideology of transforming the Western world and the Middle East. The financial burdens on the already shaky economies of Europe will be enormous.

“They will be forced by their own morality to take in and care for people who will not assimilate into the cultures of France, Germany, and Scandinavia. Instead, the Muslim refugees will establish their own enclaves with their traditional way of life and Sharia law. The redistribution of European personal wealth will be one of the results. High taxes will be required, as will a growth in the size and scope of government, to cope with the problems of immigration and failed integration of the diverse cultures. The natural course of these factors will lead to a single-party system run by an elite group who will make decisions once left to the people and local government.

“America is better equipped to deal with refugees and the numbers they take in will not stress the economy to the same extent. But the federal government will grow to cope with the problems of immigration of groups of people who do not want to be assimilated into American culture. Nevertheless, the immigrants will increase the polarization of America.

“Your messaging will ensure the immigrants support your progressive party. The progressives will drive hard to give these people a quick path to citizenship. With the black, Hispanic, and Muslim votes, the progressive party will thrive and establish deep roots. You have never failed to use issues to destroy the opposition and this one is handmade for you. Your only danger is you cannot stay in office long enough to make all this happen. Without your destroy-America philosophy and political skills, the transformation process will not be able to continue. The test will be if you can uphold your veto of any legislation stopping or limiting the immigration of Syrian refugees and, at the same time, convincing Americans that your administration can and will vet each and every refugee, male and female.”

“You know, this is a weird scene. Here, I, the President, of what was the most powerful nation in the world, is sitting in a furnished underground cave discussing my plans with someone whose name I don’t know and yet, you know more about me than any of my closest staff. Your description is right on. I don’t think anyone else really understands. Of course I caused the breakdown of the Middle East, the rise of Iran, the disintegration of Iraq, the chaos in Libya and the constant push of the Muslims against the false state of Israel. Not to mention the replacement of American imperial influence in the area by the Russians. Thousands of angry devout Muslims were the real power of change.

“I wish I had more time to destroy the entire Sunni power structure. And I am very thankful you are powerless to warn anyone. Not that anyone would believe your story. Even I doubt you really exist, locked down here in the caverns beneath the White House. I may come down again, but don’t count on it. Don’t get up. Save what energy you have left. My last joy will be doing a victory lap down here in your cave.”

This is an account written by a fictional advisor who doesn’t exist but should.

INSIGHTS 238 — PARIS OR HERE, NO SURPRISE

When a terrorist organization that has the capability to put thousands of fighters on the battlefield and has demonstrated its ability to export terror announces it is going to carry out attacks in the Western world, why should we not believe them? Just because our leaders refuse to recognize the threat from ISIS doesn’t mean we citizens should discount the threats. Work to elect people who are dedicated to defending America, not transforming it. We have twice elected a president who is more obsessed with closing the Guantanamo Bay prison facility that was  built to incarcerate our foreign enemies than he is with protecting the nation.

He will not project our power abroad. He sees our history as being responsible for the continuation of western imperialism and colonialism. Our troops in Iraq were called ‘an occupation force.’ It appears his sympathies lie with the third-world Islam powers. Iran is an example. We have a leader who ‘leads from behind,’ which is not leading at all. The threat of ISIS to the homeland and the deaths of thousands of Arabs, Christians and Muslim, and the creation of millions of homeless refugees is the direct result of the failure of American leadership. Now he wants America to absorb thousands of Arab refugees, many young men who can not be vetted — a perfect entry for ISIS infiltrators who then would not have to use fake passports or our unguarded southern border to set up operational support capabilities in America and launch attacks against our people. All that time our law and order forces are using police powers to fight a war, which is worse than taking a knife to a gun fight.

In addition, we have a rampant case of PC-ism (political correctness). At least 95 percent of ISIS fighters are Arab Muslims, yet to recognize that Arab men are the source of terrorism in the Middle East and the West and use the tools of profiling is NOT PERMITTED. Profiling would deny jihadists of some unknown right to attack us without losing their Constitutional shields and personal rights to liberty and freedoms enjoyed by actual citizens. In essence, we are aiding and abetting people who intend to kill us and establish Sharia law everywhere they can. How long before we have “no-go zones” in America like those now in several places in Europe? I believe France is waking up. Shouldn’t we join them?

Two new novels describing possible ISIS attacks in America — like those that occurred in Paris — have been published this year. Read about the logistical resources required, the form and substance of the radicalization process, the operational planning and finally the execution of terrorist plans.

These two Jack Brandon novels, Quiet Justice and Blood Justice by Barry Kelly, are available in ebook or in print form from your local bookstore. The author, a former CIA operative and special assistant to President Reagan, has the background and experience to understand the terrorist threat.
