INSIGHTS 181 — WHAT’S WRONG WITH AMERICA?

All of us can find things that need improvement. But there is nothing fundamentally wrong with America that cannot be corrected by breaking the hold progressivism has on segments of our nation.

Progressivism, as an ideology, has no place in America. The very word itself was used by Mr. Saul Alinsky, a communist community organized in Chicago who wrote the book, “Rules for Radicals,” used  by President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and many other left-wing university professors and very left-wing politicians. Alinsky chose the name progressive because he realized the terms socialism and communism were deeply unpopular in America.

Adherents of this ideology believe no matter what problems are facing the nation, do not try to solve them. Instead, use the issue they present to attack your opponents. Since the issue is never the issue in progressive ideology you may say anything and take any action that in the end helps secure political power. In other terms, this end, seizing power, always justifies the means. Seizing power means establishing a one-party political system run by a progressive elite.

For the first time in American history we have a president who talks and acts as if he truly wants to destroy America, past, present, and future, in order to establish a far better place for all citizens. He has said many times he intends to transform America. Believe him. He means it. I cannot think of any other reason for what he says and does what he does.

Remember, this president packed up a bust of Winston Churchill and sent it back to Great Britain during his first few days in office.  Anything Churchill stood for, President Obama and his progressives are against. Not only was Churchill a British hero, many Americans from the WWII and Cold War eras also saw Churchill as a hero of the free world. That single act should have told us how deeply this president hates the Western world and its colonial past, real and imagined.

The progressives truly hate the history of America and our role as the super power. I don’t care what problem area you select, you will not find our president working to solve the problem for the good of the nation and its citizens. Take energy, the economy, the free market system, the role of the entrepreneur,  anti-terrorism actions, dealings with Islamic radicalism, the Armed Forces (force levels and equipment), relations with Israel, Iran, Russia, Cuba, and our allies, and race relations in America.

We are not a racist nation. Yet President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Mayor De Blasio of New York and the black racism champions whose positions depend on throwing  the race card in all directions, say we are.  What kind of a White House would have Rev. Al Sharpton as their primary advisor on race issues in America? ( I write fiction but that is too far out even for a fictional story.) I don’t see how the president can be working toward national unity with the statements that come from him, Al Sharpton, Eric Holder and Mayor De Blasio. The only answer is that the president is following his ideology and using the race issue to cause chaos and anarchy in America to further the establishment of a one-party progressive government.

The progressives are masters of misdirection to control the message and the media agenda. Otherwise, why focus the nation’s attention on closing Guantanamo Bay’s detention facility for hard core terrorists or recognizing Cuba at this time? The creation of chaos on the national level by using race-based politics may be necessary before the American people might accept one-party rule. Not you, not the country, only the progressive transformation plans are benefiting from the Obama administration.

INSIGHTS 174 — WHY IMMIGRATION NOW?

obamaBefore jumping into the trenches to fight Obama’s executive action on immigration, remember that is exactly what he wants conservatives to do. His tactics haven’t changed. He doesn’t care one smidgen (a presidential word) about Hispanics. Never has and never will. He proved that when he chose Obamacare over immigration.

But he cares a lot about the immigration issue. This issue is tailor-made for a ranting progressive to mislead the people into believing his opposition is anti-immigration and wants to break up families and keep illegal immigrants from ever getting a path to citizenship. He wants to use the immigration issue to attack the Republican congress.

By making villains out of his opposition he can show he still is a force to be reckoned with and that he still has the support of the large number of people who didn’t come out and vote for him. I can understand how Hispanic illegals think the president’s illegal action is a wonderful thing. Finally a step toward becoming a legal resident and all that means.

In fact, nothing has changed. No one was going to deport the people affected by his action. Most of them have been here for a generation. The vast majority of conservatives are very willing to have law-abiding, hardworking people stay here and become citizens.

My single reservation is one most conservatives share. You cannot have immigration reform, including a clear and obtainable path to citizenship, until the border is secured. Otherwise making it legal for millions of illegal immigrants to stay here will only attract a flood of new people illegally crossing our open border. That is what happened under President Reagan when many illegal immigrants were allowed to remain in America. The Republicans told us then that part of the bill would make the border secure. It never happened.

How can anyone trust the word of a president and his administration who have deliberately and knowingly lied several times to the American people? There is no longer any trust of this government. Only the progressives who are intent on transforming America into a socialist nation believe in the leadership of President Obama.

I can’t find a better example of the president’s slavish adherence to Saul Alinsky’s political creed, the issue is never the issue. Never try to solve national or international problems, just capture an issue and attack the opposition. Any means to take power from the haves and give it to the have-nots is good. The end justifies the means. That, fellow Americans, is what Obama’s immigration order is all about.

EIGHT DECADES OF INSIGHTS 152

InsightsFor the next few blogs I’m going to publish excerpts from my book, “INSIGHTS: Transforming America — Is this what we fought for?” This book is now out in paperback and on Kindle or Nook. I’ve kept the price low because I want this message to get to as many people as possible. Please pass these blogs on to your friends and contacts. For those of you who have read my book, you needn’t read again the same words but please pass them on. I’ll respond to as many comments and questions as I can. If you’ve had difficulty understanding this president, reading “INSIGHTS” will help you understand Obama and explain what is happening to your family and friends, conservatives or not.

WHY DOESN’T HE GOVERN?

The president’s devotion to socialism and the teachings of Saul Alinsky prevent him from working to solve important national and international issues. President Obama can only see issues as opportunities to be used to destroy his opposition. The destruction of the opposition clears the way for the building of a one-party government with an equal opportunity society where wealth is distributed by a centralized government, just like Alinsky preaches in his book, Rules for Radicals.

Alinsky is a brilliant revolutionary, but he was never president. His teaching may have guided Obama to the presidency but surely does not help him govern where issues are real. If you don’t solve them, you are held accountable. Cute messaging and flip-flopping on nearly every issue — such as raising the debt, setting red lines, refusing to recognize the nation is at war with terrorism, or that the economy is in bad shape — are hurting the president’s ability to govern.

Recall his vote against raising the debt during President Bush’s tenure because he thought raising the debt ceiling was being unpatriotic.  Inconsistency and the loss of respect for your word diminishes any leader. This president just doesn’t seem to understand that historical lesson.
He doesn’t care about how the Affordable Care Act affects the people as long as it puts seven percent of the economy under government control. Nor does he worry about the number of people out of work, the insecure national borders, foreign affairs, nor the increasing cost of welfare.

All these issues bring more people under the care of the central government. To maintain the momentum of people coming under government care he must keep spending beyond the nation’s income. An economic crisis will enable him to nationalize more of the economy. His plan won’t work in the long run but it will cause great damage to the nation and the American safe harbor for individual freedom, which is the hope and bedrock for a free people everywhere.

EIGHT DECADES OF INSIGHTS 135

OBAMA’S FOREIGN  POLICY

We all know our president does not like the tedious nature of foreign entanglements but by education and experience he is not prepared for working on the world stage. Maybe that’s why he is so eager to turn to the United Nations to handle problems our previous presidents, with one exception, understood and handled in house.

President Obama’s intellectual mentor, Mr. Saul Alinsky, wrote a brilliant guide for progressives (socialists and far left liberals) to gain power. Unfortunately, Mr. Alinsky never had any experience running a government. So even after the president is well on his way to seizing power, he is not equipped to use it to solve America’s foreign and domestic problems. He continues to use all issues as a means to destroy his opposition, the Republican Party. And that is Obama’s weakness. He doesn’t know how to use or keep power. Unfortunately for the nation, the Republican Party is not worth the title of the opposition party.

The president has not been helped by his two secretaries of state. Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are also clueless when it comes to solving intricate foreign policy issues. I have long been a student of foreign affairs. It is very hard to point to anything those two hapless secretaries of state have accomplished except to compete for leaving the heaviest jet engine carbon trail of any previous and hopefully future secretary of state. Their responses to any foreign affairs issue facing the president have been limited to causing chaos and confusion. The world is in worse shape than any time since WWII. Korea and Vietnam were not nearly the threat to world stability as current Russia, China, Iran, the Islamic Caliphate or the current conflict between Hamas and Israel.

The last troubled area is worth some more discussion. John Kerry, who I believe cannot be underrated, is proving again he can make any bad situation worse. Imagine the hypocrisy of bringing a truce agreement to Israel that was based on his consultations with leaders in Turkey and Qatar who are open suppliers and political supporters of Hamas, a recognized terrorist state. Any secretary of state with an ounce of common sense would have stopped in Egypt for advice. Egypt holds the overland gateway to Gaza and has a direct interest in stability on its borders since the Muslim Brotherhood is no longer in power in Egypt.

It is possible that Secretary Kerry was acting on the instructions of the president, who seems to be very pro-Muslim and, by his speeches and actions, clearly anti-Israel. If Kerry was acting on the president’s orders, it is clear that creating chaos and weakening the influence of America in the world still needs more attention from our president. In the least, it further exposes the ineptitude of our foreign policy secretary. There used to be a time when secretaries would refuse foreign policy approaches they did not feel were ethically or pragmatically acceptable.

Complicated? Hard to believe? Can’t be true? Read my new book, “INSIGHTS: Transforming America — Is This What We Fought For?which is free on Kindle for a limited time.

EIGHT DECADES OF INSIGHTS 132

YOUNG, HOPEFUL, AND WAITING

It’s been a long time since I was young, hopeful, and waiting for good things to come along. So please cut me some slack if and when I get too far off base. Republicans, Democrats, and whatever else weren’t even part of my fears, hopes, or wishes when I was young. By young, I mean those of you who are between 18 and 28. I doubt any of my blog readers are in that age group. I hope so, but doubt it. You don’t have the draft to simplify your life’s plans or those of the next six months. I think many of us used the draft and the armed forces as a place and time to grow up or, at least, wise up. We had no worries about getting a job right out of high school or college. Uncle Sam had plans for us and he paid for our time. Beyond that, for some of us he paid for our undergraduate education and in my case, a graduate degree as well. So people in their early- to mid-twenties graduated without debt and with several jobs to pick from. I don’t think anyone in my class of ’59 at PITT had less than four of five real employment interviews and two or three real jobs opportunities. No one had to go back home to live because they couldn’t find employment.

Contrast that with today’s young graduates five-plus years into the transforming of America. First the college seniors: you are probably deep in debt from getting a so-so education; few of you have employers coming on campus to beg you to consider working with them; you are not even sure where you will be living in the six months after graduation; most of the possible jobs are well below your hoped-for job level. The challenge of those jobs is to try and live on your salary. Getting married, raising a family, buying a new car, looking at real estate is part of a dream. It sure isn’t reality. Your medical insurance requires bigger monthly payments than the monthly mortgage payments your parents paid. Right after graduation some kind of transportation and auto insurance is as far as you can stretch. You don’t want to quit. That is no option for you. But the world is really unfair.

You just graduated from a place where most of your professors probably supported the progressive Obama administration. Is ‘progressive’ a bad word? It is the word a radical revolutionary, Saul Alinsky, adopted to replace the words “communism” and “socialism.” Those words just don’t sell well in America. Many of your professors were actively in favor of Obama’s plan of transforming America. They were in favor of hope and change. Great words but only if the hope becomes real and the change is acceptable. You see, the world has never been fair. Nobody owes you anything. Harsh, but true. The progressives want you to think the government is responsible for all your problems.

For those of you who could not afford or didn’t want to go to college, you have your own problems finding jobs that pay well. It is even harder. You’re expected to fill mostly service jobs. You know a college education is not for everyone. In America many people without degrees have created businesses, raised strong families, and held important management jobs in towns, cities, and states across America. The progressive ideology hurts you just as much as anyone. Nearly all the problems, both you and your college-educated peers face on a daily basis, are because of the policies of President Obama that do not provide an environment that encourages economic growth. President Obama’s economic recovery plan has not worked and will not work. In truth, the job market gets worse every year. Don’t believe the government’s employment figures. They are not real numbers. Just ask your friends who have been looking for good jobs and finding none. The affect of transforming America on you is that you do not now have a job commensurate with your education or current needs and probably won’t until the transforming process stops and the fixing process begins. Until then you are being made increasingly dependent on government support and that is the  intent of the progressives.

Like it or not.
