It’s almost the end of 2020. Beyond an incredible amount of wide spread election fraud that has weakened our faith in the democratic election process, we are learning that we have been subject to censorship of an insidious nature by the news media, some government agencies, social networks, very wealthy individuals and big tech companies. What they have in common is they all will resort to pushing information they know is false as long as it promotes their causes and will not allow information to flow if it could damage their view of the world.
I believe the worst form of censorship is the refusal to publish information that they don’t like. For in that case the people are not even aware of the issue. The Department of Justice and the FBI have made decisions of when to publish certain information depending on their view of the political result. A recent example is the issue around the FBI handling of the Hunter Biden laptop that contained data that could have damaged Mr. Biden’s vote count. A recent poll stated some ten percent of democrats contacted said if they had known about the Biden family’s financial activities while Mr. Biden was Vice President they would not have voted for him.
Having a free and inquiring press has been a very important source of support for America Democracy. But now this same free press is itself engaged in widespread censorship by deciding what should be published and what should be ignored. This judgement is based, not upon what will sell their product or what is a story the people need to hear but, instead their editorial judgement is based upon protecting their political causes.
The reason Trump tweets so much is, if he didn’t the people would never know his side of the issue. Print and digital media, big tech, social media outlets, billionaires and government agencies have no charter to censor information. No one does including the government, short of national emergency. Too bad our schools have forgotten about the 1st Amendment.
