EIGHT DECADES OF INSIGHTS-84 THE ADVISOR

THREE MORE YEARS?

greendoor

The Advisor had been pacing up and down his office for nearly an hour. He was truly troubled. He hadn’t seen the President for two weeks. Even worse, if the President did come down to see him, he had nothing to say to him. He sighed heavily and sat down to drink some coffee and collect his thoughts.

The problem between us is deeply rooted in the President’s ideology and a long series of political successes by following the wishes of the far left. Only now, the President has the power. He is the President of what some still think is the most powerful nation in world history. Any historian can tell you that winning power and exercising power are two very different processes. In the struggle to seize power, you are not expected to solve the kinds of problems all presidents face. Words of inspiration and hope, and promising voters a better world are the tools of the power seeker. It doesn’t matter much if the words are true or not because the end justifies the means. To someone trying to win power, every action is good as long as the end is the seizure of power from your opponents.

The Advisor pulled out his journal and started to write:

To govern in a democracy or a republic, you must please the people by delivering security, economic progress,  social services, and national pride. In a totalitarian government, force and fear are required tools of governing. In democracies, truth is important. In dictatorships, truth doesn’t matter. Mass murder and the abolishment of freedom is the usual formula for controlling the opposition. Our current President doesn’t seem to realize he is now the man-in-charge. He must now solve issues, not just use them to weaken the opposition. Americans want to trust the word of the President. President Obama is still in campaign mode during which he used untruths successfully to defeat political opponents. The constant blaming of others is not presidential. Holding back information that makes the Administration look bad is not presidential. I’m afraid people have lost faith in his word. Once that happens it is nearly impossible to reverse.

How can I advise a President whom the people no longer trust? What should I do for the next three years of his term? The nation is in some peril and President Obama is playing to the tune of “I didn’t know,” and “I will get to the bottom of this.” That might be right because I believe he has reached the bottom. He has used up the blaming of others. He needs to spend more time looking in the mirror. I doubt even his mirror image can trust his word.

All I can do is record my thoughts in the Journal for my successors to read. Truly, I would like to help him but when a President loses the trust of the people, his term is up. I have no idea what he or the nation should do for the next three years. Except for the progressive lemmings in the Senate and the media, there would be calls for impeachment on the grounds that he has committed at least five Watergates. Ben Ghazi and the IRS scandals being the worst. Only he is already being punished — by the sentence of three years of late-night jokes.

The Advisor put down his pen. He took another sip of coffee and reread what he had just written. It hurt him to read “I have no idea what he or the nation should do for the next three years.” He meant it, and it meant trouble for the U.S.

DANGEROUS END GAME

The few people who think about the end game being pushed by the polite and articulate Progressives know these social experiments always end up in mass murders and political repression.

We aren’t that smart; we just believe reading history and accepting the facts associated with the Communist Revolution in Russia, Cuba, China, and North Korea is instructive. Lenin came to power with a slogan, “Land, Bread, Peace.” Who could argue with that? Lenin and Stalin didn’t mention the mass killing of class warfare or the repression of innovative thinking or the right of free speech. The goals were income distribution, equal opportunity, and the sacrifice of the individual for the improvement of the masses. The regulation of commerce, the state ownership of production, health, education, the end of a free press, the punishment of dissent, the abolishment of parliaments or legislatures, and independent courts were all necessary to bring about the establishment of the Progressives’ dream.

Don’t let the passion of the Progressives convince you to go along. Many of them really believe what they preach. It’s just that they have their own set of facts. Their blueprint for a Progressive society has never worked anywhere. Their track record is so bad when they called themselves socialists that a name change was necessary. Although they lurk in the left wing of the Democratic party, they are fervent Progressives. Some of them, like Hillary Clinton, have the courage to say they are Progressives. Their goal is the transformation of America. Heard that before? They will use any means to achieve a progressive/socialist society.

They will even make their wealthy backers richer in the process. Why would any president refuse to permit the building of a pipeline from Canada to U.S. refineries? Even the unions are in favor. The creation of jobs to put people to work should be a good thing. But no! Remember the Gulf oil spill and the speed with which the president banned all deep water drilling? The ruling forced the deep water drilling rigs to go elsewhere. Some went to Brazil. The Obama government was reported to have sent a billion dollars aid to Brazil to encourage Brazilian deep water drilling for oil. President Obama on a visit to Brazil said he wanted to be able to import oil from Brazil. It was also reported that a major backer of the Obama progressive agenda, Mr. George Soros, had a significant investment in Brazilian oil drilling.

Now the pipeline: do you think any major investor in deep water drilling for oil would welcome a pipeline bringing cheaper oil from Canada? Maybe that’s why the president and his former Secretary of State Clinton, both ardent followers of Saul Alinsky, came down, after some positive comments, against the pipeline.

For Progressives the issue is never the issue except when their big money is involved. Progressive tactics to seize power are ugly but not as ugly as their dream state. Just say no!

BEWARE OF THE MESSAGE

greendoor

The Advisor was pacing in his office. It was day two of the government shutdown and the President had just appeared on TV to blame it on the Republicans. The Advisor could see right through him and surrendered himself to the journals.

He wrote:  I’ve studied politics and the struggle for power all my adult life. The essence of all efforts to gain power is the developing and dissemination of “the” message. Truth is usually not necessary. The believers don’t need the truth. No great takeover of power ever involved the truth. Russia, China, Cuba, Eastern Europe, Germany, and various third-world countries are good examples. But the current administration of the Progressive Democrats is a world-class messaging machine.

For example, the blame game of who is responsible for shutting down the government. All the President had to do was agree to applying Obamacare to the Congress and to delay the application of the law to individuals, in the same way the President gave a year’s delay to big business without any consultation with the Congress, in itself an unlawful and unconstitutional act. He made 16 other changes in the law also without consulting the legislative branch. Yet the message is that Republicans wanted the government shutdown. That’s not the truth. In the struggle for power, truth is a bystander. Why didn’t he compromise? There was plenty of political space for him.

The reason he didn’t is ugly. The President’s actions can only be understood if you understand he must use every issue to destroy the opposition. The goal is a one-party government. He cannot escape Alinsky’s teaching that the issue is never the issue. Ultimate power for a Progressive elite is the end game. The transformation of America cannot be accomplished as long as there is even a bewildered opposition that still doesn’t understand the rules have changed. Only a very few of the Republican Party’s elite talking heads are learning the new rules, but very slowly.

Obama’s war is here, in the homeland. Iran, Russia, South America, Syria, Egypt, and North Africa are of no interest to him, unless he can shape the issue to diminish the opposition party. He is willing to sacrifice our former international position of respect, won at the cost of much blood and treasure if he can improve his domestic power position. He doesn’t want to be a world power. He just wants to be an equal part of a one-world order governed by a United Nations on steroids. A world of talk, legal maneuvering, and equality. Where wealth must be redistributed to achieve the equality of nations. Anything to achieve this goal is good: climate control, cap and trade, energy resources controlled by an international group. Limitations on the size and quality of troops and weapons. The keeper of the new world order dictates when, where, and what force is needed to maintain equality.  It is Utopia by the same, old, tired wishes for a fairy-tale land that has failed everywhere it has been tried, now lives anew in the minds of the new Progressive elite. While dreamers may think the end is a beautiful creation, the process is ugly and never ending. Beware of the message. Search for the truth for only it will make you free.

EIGHT DECADES OF INSIGHTS 53

WHAT???

The readership of my blogs is small but growing and you have sent me some great comments. Listening to the news about Ben Ghazi, the IRS‘s political transgressions, and the attack on James Rosen of Fox and the AP reporters, I thought some of my new readers might enjoy a look at some archived blogs or combined pieces of those blogs. So bear with me. I don’t want to bore any of you and if  there is a past blog you would like to see re-published, please tell me. Don’t be reticent about passing all or parts of any EIGHT DECADES OF INSIGHTS blog along in an email or a posting to friends and family. One of my goals is to stimulate conversation on items and events that are critical to our individual freedoms.

Was the pushing of an unpopular, poorly crafted health care bill through Congress politically wise? Or was it only for the goal of centralizing seven percent of the economy? Thousands of new IRS officers will be policing the system. What better way to control people and their destiny? Is making the IRS even stronger and more pervasive an attractive political goal? Now we know the IRS is Obama’s tip of the spear in transforming America.

*************

Every civilization is built on a foundation of words. Words are (or were) the measure of a person. As I was growing up in small mill town in Western Pennsylvania, I learned that you judged people by how good their “word” was. Wealth, talent, strength, the car you drove, and the girls you dated were important, but nothing was as valuable as the reliability of your word. Your reputation in all fields depended upon the integrity of your word. Once that was gone, it was nearly impossible to get it back. I submit that it is the same with nations, political parties, politicians, and leaders. Can you believe what you are hearing from IRS officials, the Attorney General, the Press Secretary and even the President?

They must know that much of what they are saying  to us is untrue. I just don’t believe they value the integrity of the words they speak and print. This is dangerous. Without truth and honesty, our freedom is at risk. The end does not justify the means.  The truth does not matter to them. They believe it is okay to distort the truth as long as the lies promote the end. The end in their political terms is the destruction of the opposition and replacing our system with their version of a just and fair society where the rulers know what the people need and use whatever means are necessary to achieve and protect their utopia.

History has seen many examples of a few believing, they – not the people – know best. How did that work for the Nazis, the various communist regimes, experiments in socialism and Islam, and for several other ancient empires? They did not leave much behind, except fading memories of ugly repression. None of them could stand the truth. They all used words to further their causes and beliefs. The theory that “the end justifies the means” reigned supreme. Freedom is the final casualty when words are only a means to an end.

A nation built on lies cannot endure.

TRIBUTE TO PAT BOONE

Last night as I was watching Fox Business news, a rarity, anchor Neil Cavuto was interviewing Pat Boone, a famous singer and successful entertainer. During the interview when Cavuto was musing about what President Obama is doing, Mr. Boone pulled out the red-covered book by Mr. Saul Alinsky titled Rules for Radicals and commented that the president is following the guidance contained in this book. Cavuto, following a long line of intellectuals, scoffed at the idea the president was using Rules for Radicals to govern the country and, murmuring pleasantries, politely blew off Mr. Boone. Even worse,  Cavuto said he had read the book but didn’t believe President Obama was following Alinsky’s rules.

Where has he been? We depend upon our media and especially those wearing the mantle of an economic guru to recognize that conservative intellectuals similarly blew off Das Kapital by Karl Marx, the writings of Lenin, Mein Kampf  by Adolph Hitler, and Chairman Mao’s Red Book. How different the world might have been if only enough of our opinion leaders had paid attention. These men and their followers meant to carry out the logic and guidance put forth by their writings. All fought their way into power.

Once in power, they transformed their societies and governments. Freedom fell to centralized control by the elite. There were not anymore votes. Millions perished in the name of differing ideologies. Economies were destroyed. Are we so special that our nation cannot be transformed and freedom lost? I don’t think so. The Republican party, the opposition party, is in disarray struggling to understand what is happening. They, too, do not understand Alinsky. The essence of Alinsky’s teaching is: the issue is never the issue. What is hard to understand about that? Take any of President Obama’s points engraved on his teleprompter. He uses whatever side of any issue to destroy the opposition, the Republican party. After they are marginalized he will have total power to transform America just as he promised.

Listen to that promise, America.

Take something as straightforward as closing the White House to tours. His first position is that the “Republican-caused” sequestration will cause economic havoc. Streets and airways will be unsafe. Thousands will lose their jobs. All his lackeys preached the sky is falling. Closing the White House to tours was just another cheap dig to show up Republicans as monsters, locking school children out of their planned visit to the White House. That backfired and Obama’s narcissistic  mirror showed falling ratings. So change sides. It was the Secret Service who closed the White House tours, not the president, “who has never made a mistake.” I served President Reagan in the White House and know a Secret Service director would not ever close the White House for tours without being positive he was carrying out the president’s wishes.

President Obama is following Alinsky’s guidance right down the line. I wish he wasn’t. Wake up, you intellectual gurus of America. Show the courage and insight Pat Boone showed last night.
